I had a client ask recently what photographers do in winter during a recession. Like many photographers I know, I took the chance to regroup, recharge, and take some time out with family. Commercial work tends not to be overly seasonal, but other parts of my work peak and through. Luckily at staggered times, and a window of opportunity sprung up earlier this month to make a break.
Hiring a campervan ex Auckland, we all headed to the Coromandel Peninsula. (Kea vans are great by the way. http://nz.keacampers.com. I just love their design and convenience. Wet weather with kids wasn’t much of a problem!). Check out some holiday snaps. It reassures me of the beauty that is NZ. This is in winter, with hardly a soul in sight.

I found myself chuckling at myself this week. With a fancy camera, what do I end up taking photos of? The back of my DVD player before I took it into the shop for repair!
Quite clever I thought for connecting all the leads back up later on, but I don’t know if is creative photography I’d otherwise like to be known for! Yet for all that, it just shows how technology can make our lives easier huh?!

This site is truly incredible. This must be international photojournalism at its finest – dedicated journalists, long term projects, cutting edge topics, multi-media integration…
At a time where global news media are under pressure, isnt the strength of photography here reassuring?

Look under ‘projects’ for a range of fascinating insights. Gripping – if like me, you’ll be still here an hour later.

No, its not the guy with the fondue set on the AMI insurance ad (though the likeness is uncanny huh?!).
Not the US Nascar driver either.
But my first post as Tony Stewart, photographer, Christchurch.
Here we go, lets see what happens….!
