Well Done All Volunteers

October 26th, 2009

Having just worked for two events over Labour Weekend, I’d love to share a big vote of thanks for role of volunteers. Reunions and sports events take a huge amount of work by many folk. But like the tip of an iceberg, what participants see is only part of the effort. Unseen are the months of preparation, the financial stress, and time away from family.

To the organisers of the National Deaf Games and Hoon Hay School 50th Jubilee, well done for magic events. Particularly enjoyable too given the low currently battering CHCH, held off just long enough.

I had to laugh at this shot. It started off as a casual candid snap at the Jubilee conversazione of three people. It snowballed and snowballed to what you see here. Normally people run a mile when they see a camera. Not here!

Canterbury Bride of the Year

October 11th, 2009

On Saturday I had much pleasure working with Suzanne Carson of Event Professionals, at the 2009 Canterbury Bride of the Year in Ashburton. I was asked to judge along with Phillip Ellis (Hairdresser & formerly Technical Director of Schwarzkopf in the Far East) & Melodie McColl (Winner of the Most Creative Canterbury Bride of the Year 2008 & fashion designer).

Can I please pass on sincere thanks to all brides, bridesmaids and flowergirls for their participation. Everyone’s wedding is special, so how do you judge one against the other? It is extremely agonising I can tell you. The spirit of the event was the main thing, so well done to all entrants. By getting a second chance to wear the dress, being all made up, re-styled – how could you not enjoy it?

Results were;
Bride of the Year – Paula Dockrill – Christchurch
Bride of the Year Runner Up – Kylie Gill – Ashburton
Bride of the Year Second Runner Up – Sarah Stanley – Ashburton

Canterbury Bridesmaid of the Year Zoe Wilson Christchurch
Canterbury Bridesmaid of the Year Runner Up Kate Foxcroft Ashburton
Canterbury Bride of the Year Second Runner Up – Anna Cresswell – Ashburton

Canterbury Flower Girl of the Year – Riley Harrington – Christchurch

The prize pool was amazing and extremely generous. WOW! Great work to the sponsors for their support.

You Can’t Predict the Weather!

October 11th, 2009

I remember snow and a bitter cold snap used to come right on cue for the school holidays when we had a three term year. We now have four terms, and the bleak weather has followed. Go figure! Yet the show must go on, and full credit to Sharon & Phil for braving the elements last Friday. Great effort guys – I know it was tough even for us locals. When you have flown in especially, I can only imagine how cold you found it. Well done – I hope you find the photos some recompense for your discomfort!
